34 years after the momentous attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentine President Javier Milei has assured the Jewish state of his solidarity. "Argentina is a partner of Israel in the defense of freedom and in the fight against terrorism," said the head of state at a memorial service for the victims of the attack. "We are experiencing a historic moment in which the USA and Israel have decided to put an end to the Iranian regime, which not only imprisons its own people, but has been sowing terror around the world for decades."

Milei is considered a loyal ally of Israel and repeatedly expresses great interest in the Jewish faith.
On March 17, 1992, a suicide bomber drove a car loaded with explosives into the embassy in the center of the Argentine capital and detonated it. The attack killed 29 people and injured more than 200 others.
The Jewish community in Buenos Aires is one of the largest outside of Israel. Two years after the attack on the Israeli embassy, 85 people were killed in an attack on the Jewish community center Amia. The Argentinian judiciary holds the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah and the Iranian leadership responsible for both attacks.
