Despite the ceasefire in the Gaza war, the Israeli army has attacked several people from the air in an area it controls in the Gaza Strip, killing six. According to the army, these were terrorists who posed a threat to the soldiers.

They had come out of a tunnel in the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and had approached soldiers. In total, around 15 of them came out of the tunnel at two different points, the army said. Five had surrendered. They were arrested and taken to Israel for questioning.

According to the army, the incident took place behind the so-called yellow line, behind which the Israeli military has withdrawn as part of the ceasefire agreement.

Palestinian media reported that one person had been killed by Israeli soldiers in the south of the Gaza Strip. It was initially unclear whether this was the same incident. The statements from both sides cannot be independently verified.

Reports: Armed Hamas members are hiding in tunnels

Israel's army also stated: "In recent weeks, forces have been deployed in the Rafah area to destroy the remaining underground infrastructure in the area and eliminate the terrorists hiding in it."

According to Israeli media reports, around 100 to 200 armed members of Hamas are holed up in tunnels in the area. They want to achieve free passage to areas not controlled by the Israeli army through indirect negotiations. However, Israel has not yet agreed to this.

On Wednesday, Israel's army attacked Hamas targets throughout the Gaza Strip following an attack on Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military announced that forces had killed the leader of the Hamas naval unit, among others. According to Palestinian reports, a total of 25 people were killed.

Despite the current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, there are currently almost daily incidents with fatalities in the Gaza Strip behind the yellow line.
