The following factors contributed to the accident: carrying out work on the cable car support during operation without a reliable warning process before passing through the cable car cabin and the fact that the apprentice was not using personal fall protection equipment at the time. This was the conclusion reached by the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) in its final report published on Tuesday.
In November 2022, there had been several deviations from the special protection regulations of the Employment Act for young employees. At the time, the mechatronics apprentice was caught by the running gear of a cabin on a support of the Laax-Crap Sogn Gion aerial cableway. He first hit the cabin and then fell around 40 meters and died.
