According to media reports, five of the men are between 35 and 80 years old. Several had already been declared dead by the army. They were all alive when they were abducted.
According to an Israeli count, Hamas now holds 109 hostages, many of whom are probably no longer alive.
US Secretary of State Blinken is currently trying to reach an agreement in the Middle East on a ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of the abductees. For the first time in a long time, there is hope. Israel has accepted the latest US-backed proposal for a ceasefire, Blinken said at a press conference on Monday. Now it was up to Hamas to agree to the proposal.
Palestinian terrorists abducted a total of 253 people from Israel to the coastal area on October 7 last year. Some of them were released through a prisoner exchange, while a few hostages were freed by the Israeli army - even at great cost to the Palestinian civilian population during these military operations, for which Israel is internationally criticized.
