According to Commander-in-Chief Olexander Syrskyj, the Ukrainian army has liberated around 16 square kilometers of land from Russian troops in recent weeks. "We are continuing the defensive operation and carrying out counterattacks with some success," the general wrote on Facebook after three days in the eastern Ukrainian Donetsk region.

The recaptures took place near the towns of Udatschne, Kotlyne and Shevchenko in the Pokrovsk region. However, according to military observers, the Ukrainian troops had to give up positions during the same period, particularly in the part of the Russian border region of Kursk that they had held for several months. The Russian army was also able to make territorial gains on other sections of the front in eastern and southern Ukraine and captured several smaller settlements.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three years with Western support.
