In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the judiciary has lifted the arrest warrant against Bosnian Serb separatist leader Milorad Dodik. Dodik had presented himself to the country's general prosecutor's office and had himself questioned there, according to a statement.

The arrest warrant against Dodik has therefore been "annulled" and the 66-year-old has been provisionally released, the investigating authority and the State Court announced in a joint statement on Friday.

The Bosnian State Court had issued the international arrest warrant against Dodik in mid-March after he had unilaterally declared the jurisdiction of the judiciary and police of the Bosnian central state for the Serbian entity Republika Srpska to be terminated.

The move was a reaction to a court ruling against Dodik, who had been sentenced to one year in prison for defying the UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, the plan was later overturned by the Constitutional Court.

Dodik had also called on Bosnian Serbs in the authorities of the central state to leave their posts and join the institutions of Republika Srpska instead.

Since the Dayton Peace Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been divided into the Republika Srpska, which is predominantly inhabited by Bosnian Serbs, and the Croat-Muslim Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two semi-autonomous parts of the country are linked by a weak central government.
