At least 50 people have been arrested at a Pride parade in Istanbul. Among them were four lawyers, the Turkish lawyers' association CHD announced on the X platform. They accused the police of brutal action against the activists who were on the streets for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) people. The detainees are to be questioned today.

Events such as the Pride parade have been banned in Turkey for years. This year too, the governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, wrote on Platform X in advance of the gathering planned for Sunday that calls for demonstrations by "marginalized groups" were directed against "social peace, family structure and moral values" and would not be permitted. The center in the European part of the metropolis was cordoned off on a large scale and several metro stations were closed.
