At least two people have been killed and a dozen injured in a gun attack at a Catholic school in the US state of Minnesota. The US President also intervenes.

According to US media reports, at least two people have been killed and more than a dozen others injured in a gun attack at a school in Minneapolis in the US state of Minnesota. 15 children are being treated in local hospitals, US broadcaster CBS reported. According to a local radio station, several of the injured were in mortal danger.

According to the police, the shooter had targeted children who were at a school service in a church. The perpetrator shot through church windows at children sitting in church pews, it was reported.

Shooter is said to be dead

Local media, citing police sources, reported that the shooter was dead. The city of Minneapolis' official account on the online service X stated that the "shooter is subdued and there is currently no active threat to the general public". It said the area should be avoided "to allow emergency personnel to assist the victims".

"The FBI has responded quickly and is on the ground," wrote US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform. The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, described the incident on X as a "horrific act of violence".

According to the city of Minneapolis, there is no immediate danger to the population. US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem spoke on Platform X of a "horrific gun incident" at a Catholic school that her department was monitoring.
