The large western Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine has been hit by a heavy missile attack, according to the authorities. "According to our information, it was the most massive rocket attack on Belgorod (since the start of the war)," wrote the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, on Telegram. According to this, power plants were hit. According to initial information, however, there were no fatalities or injuries, he added.

Russia has been systematically shelling the infrastructure of neighboring Ukraine since the start of the war. The energy grid there is now so weakened that in many places people have to make do without electricity and heating for hours every day. But the Russians themselves are also increasingly feeling the consequences of the war. Belgorod is one of the worst affected regions in Russia. The power supply is also restricted there due to Ukrainian attacks.
