The three defendants are charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent grievous bodily harm. The death occurred during a non-urgent operation for a hernia.

The trial began in a packed courtroom in the presence of the father of the deceased child and employees of the cantonal hospital. According to the presiding judge, it should last a good day and a half.

For the homicide, the public prosecutor is demanding a prison sentence of three years, six months of which must be served. This is linked to a fine of 10,000 francs. The assault should also result in a fine.

The accused do not admit the facts of the case. They also want to exercise their right to refuse to testify in court.
