One day after the votes, 138 voting envelopes were discovered in a letterbox in Balsthal SO on Monday. However, the final results of the votes remain unchanged. This is the second time that Balsthal has failed to vote.

Processes have now been initiated to review the internal procedures, said a spokeswoman for the canton of Solothurn on Monday evening at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The additional envelopes had no effect on the final cantonal and national results. Only voter turnout increased by just under four percent.

The situation was different in 2022 for the vote on the AHV reform. Back then, the municipality of Balsthal mixed up the Yes and No votes, which led to the cantonal result being overturned. The canton of Solothurn then rejected the AHV reform instead of accepting it. The mistake did not change the result for Switzerland as a whole. The AHV reform was still approved by a margin of 31,852 votes.

This year, the voting results for the canton remain unchanged. Both federal proposals - the Juso initiative and the Service-citoyen initiative - were clearly rejected. At cantonal level, voters approved the partial revision of the Economic and Labor Act, as well as the purchase of a property for around CHF 5 million. The voters rejected a parliamentary savings resolution.
