Previously, ruler Alexander Lukashenko had ordered the reinforcement of troops in the Gomel and Mosyr regions in the south-east of the country. They were there to respond to possible provocations from the Ukrainian side.
Lukashenko: Air defense in full readiness
On Saturday, Lukashenko reported the alleged shooting down of several Ukrainian air targets. The air defense had been put on full standby because around ten flying objects from Ukraine had entered Belarusian airspace in the east of the country in the Kostyukovichy region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this was a "dangerous attempt to expand the current conflict zone in our region". Belarus (formerly Belarus) will use its right to self-defense and respond appropriately to any provocation or hostile actions. Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin announced on Saturday that a transfer of "Iskander" ballistic missiles and "Polones" missile launchers to the region had also been ordered.
Belarus is supporting Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. At the beginning of the war almost two and a half years ago, the country had already made its territory available to Russian troops in order to invade northern Ukraine from there.
