Former US President Joe Biden has lashed out at his successor Donald Trump. According to US media, the 82-year-old said that Trump had not only demolished the White House with a wrecking ball, alluding to Trump's construction work for a new ballroom in the White House, "but also the Constitution, the rule of law and our democracy".

During his speech at a Democratic event in the state of Nebraska, the former president also reportedly addressed Trump directly. "You are behaving in a way that shames us as a nation," he was quoted as saying by CNN. He also accused Trump of putting the interests of his wealthy allies above those of the American people. "You work for us, Mr. President. We don't work for you. You work for us - not just for billionaires and millionaires."
According to reports, Biden described the Democrats' victories in the gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia and in the mayoral election in New York last Tuesday as rays of hope "in a very, very dark moment". The American people had sent a message to Trump with these votes.
Biden now only makes rare appearances
Biden left office in January. Since then, he has rarely appeared in public. He had actually wanted to stand as a candidate for the Democrats in the 2024 presidential election. However, concerns grew during the election year and doubts were raised about his physical and mental condition. After considerable pressure, including from within his own party, Biden withdrew from the race a few months before the election. In May, it was announced that Biden was suffering from prostate cancer.
