Families can save almost 4,000 francs in premiums over three years if they cleverly switch health insurer, model or deductible. This is the conclusion reached by the Axa insurance and pension group in its 2025 switching report.

Anyone who consistently optimized their health insurance situation in autumn 2022, 2023 and 2024 will have significantly more in their wallet today than if they had not switched, writes Axa in its 2025 Switching Report published on Tuesday.

According to the report, the average for adults is CHF 1352, for 19 to 25-year-olds it is CHF 1093 and for a family of four with two underage children it is even CHF 3844. And according to Axa, even after three years of consistently switching basic insurance, savings of around 40 percent can still be made compared to the first switch.

Switchers from French-speaking Switzerland are clearly ahead in terms of savings this year. With average savings of CHF 594 per person per year, they were able to reduce their premiums by CHF 54 more than the Ticino population. Compared to the German-speaking Swiss (with an average of CHF 428 lower premiums), they are ahead by CHF 166.

Latin Switzerland is also the frontrunner in a cantonal comparison: switchers from Geneva save an average of CHF 662 in premiums for 2025, while those in Ticino save CHF 594 and those in Vaud CHF 553. Across Switzerland as a whole, around CHF 25 million in premium expenditure was saved by switching to compulsory basic insurance.

According to Axa, the third switching report is based on more than 54,000 basic insurance switches that were carried out in fall 2024 via the company's own switching service.
