According to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the USA was not involved in the violent death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya. Nor did the US government know anything about the killing, Blinken told the local broadcaster Channel News Asia (CNA) during a visit to Singapore.

Blinken once again emphasized the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in order to reduce tensions in the Middle East. "We will keep working on it until we get there," he said. A ceasefire is not only crucial to end the suffering of Palestinians in the region, but also to bring the hostages home, he said.

"One of the things we have been focusing on is making sure that the conflict (...) does not spread, does not spill over to other places, does not escalate, and we will continue to do that," he added.

According to the terrorist organization Hamas this morning, its political leader Ismail Haniya was killed in an Israeli attack on a residence in Iran's capital Tehran. Israel has not yet commented on the incident. Iran and Hamas have announced retaliation.
