Shortly before the expected US initiatives to end the war in Ukraine, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy visited Kiev and pledged further support for the country under attack. "We are determined to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position both in the fight against Russia and beyond," said Lammy according to British sources.

He recalled that London and Kiev signed a 100-year partnership agreement in January to secure Ukraine's long-term future. He met with his colleague Andrij Sybiha and President Volodymyr Selenskyj in the Ukrainian capital. He brought with him 55 million British pounds (66 million euros) in aid for social projects and the expansion of renewable energies in Ukraine.

Although not an EU member, the United Kingdom is an important supporter of Ukraine in Europe. It is not only supplying weapons to Kiev. The UK as a military power could also play a role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine once the fighting has ended. The new US administration of President Donald Trump wants to bring an end to the war that has been going on for almost three years. There are contacts with both Kiev and Moscow, although the exact US plan is still unknown.
