"All seven foreign ministers agree with the US proposal for a ceasefire, which is supported by the Ukrainians," said Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly on the sidelines of the meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Canada. The Russian reaction to the US move would be examined. The meeting was able to reach a strong consensus on a number of issues.
In addition to Canada and the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan are also members of the group. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio is taking part on behalf of the USA.
The conference in Charlevoix in eastern Canada is taking place under the impression of the change of course that US President Donald Trump has taken in Ukraine policy and also towards neighboring Canada. The turn towards Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is of particular concern to the partners. At the same time, the meeting was characterized by efforts to achieve unity and a united stance towards countries such as Russia and China. According to participants, it was unclear for a long time whether the group would be able to agree on a joint final document.
