The canton of Valais is rushing to the aid of the residents of Blatten. The immediate measures include ten million francs released by the State Council. A strategy group is to deal with the reconstruction of the village, which was buried by a landslide.

In addition, the reconstruction of the infrastructure in the Lötschental is to be tackled quickly without bureaucratic hurdles, as State Council President Mathias Reynard (Department of Health, Social Affairs and Culture) explained to the media on Wednesday in Sion together with his State Council colleagues.

The "Blatten of the future" should also benefit from a concept that takes better account of climate change and its effects in the mountains.

State Councillor Stéphane Ganzer (Department of Security, Institutions and Sport) assured Blatten of financial support if the costs exceed the municipality's means. Private individuals should also benefit. Ganzer referred to the Swiss fund for uninsurable natural hazards.
