Carter had made it clear in the past that he intended to vote for Democrat Kamala Harris. In the hotly contested US state of Georgia, Carter's home state, early voting for the election began on Tuesday. According to the authorities, never before have so many people voted on the first day as this time.

Carter's health is poor - he turned 100 just over two weeks ago. Around a year and a half ago, he stopped his medical treatment after several hospital stays and went into home care. "I'm just trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris," Carter reportedly told his son Chip a few weeks ago, referring to his birthday and the election. Carter's grandson Jason told the regional newspaper "Atlanta Journal Constitution".

The presidential election in the USA will take place on November 5. According to polls, it is likely to be a neck-and-neck race between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. Early voting has already begun in several states. Voters are eagerly awaiting the results in the highly contested swing states, where the election is likely to be decided.
