Switzerland is providing CHF 2.5 million in aid following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar. Several specialists from the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit are also being sent to support the UN organizations on the ground.

CHF 500,000 will come from the budget of the Cooperation Office of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Yangon and CHF 2 million from the Humanitarian Aid Emergency Fund, as announced by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) on Tuesday.
The funds will be used to finance humanitarian activities by the UN and local SDC partners in the affected regions and will be used to provide emergency shelters, drinking water, food and emergency medical care in the Southeast Asian country.
According to the latest official figures, more than 2,000 people lost their lives and over 3,400 were injured in Friday's earthquake in Myanmar, according to the FDFA. And the numbers are expected to rise further.
