According to medical and security circles in the Gaza Strip, at least 100 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza.

According to the Hamas-controlled media office, Israel's army attacked the school, which was being used as a shelter for displaced persons, during the Muslim Fajr prayer in the early morning. Dozens of the victims were burned to death. The information could not be independently verified.

Israel's army announced that it had attacked an Islamist Hamas command center in the school building in the city of Gaza in the north of the coastal strip during the night. Terrorists had been hit. The Hamas command center was located in the school next to a mosque.

The Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera also reported more than 100 dead, citing the Palestinian civil defense.

The Palestinian terrorist organization Islamic Jihad reacted immediately. "The choice of the morning prayer as the time for this terrible massacre confirms that the enemy's aim was to kill as many civilians as possible, including children and the elderly." Israel's army uses the same false pretext for attacks on schools as it does for attacks to destroy hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army did not provide any information on casualties in the message on Telegram. Prior to the attack, "numerous measures" had been taken to reduce the risk to civilians, it said. For example, precision ammunition was used in the attack. Hamas had used the building as a hideout for terrorists and commanders. Attacks against Israeli troops and the state of Israel were planned and prepared from there.

The Israeli military once again pointed out that Hamas was systematically violating international law by operating from civilian shelters. Civilians were being misused as human shields for their terrorist activities, it continued.
