Fair rules for landlords and tenants and against abuse: with these arguments, a citizens' committee is campaigning for new rules on the subletting of rented premises and simplifications in the case of terminations for personal use. The vote will take place on November 24.

The supporters of the changes to tenancy law have joined forces in the "Alliance for more living space". On the one hand, they want to prevent abuses in subletting, such as excessive rents. This is why landlords should now have to agree to subletting their premises in writing - upon request, they said on Tuesday at the launch of the referendum campaign.

On the other hand, the Yes committee would like to see clear conditions for terminating a lease on the grounds of need. If owners of apartments and commercial premises have a "significant personal need", they should be able to give notice to tenants and use their property within a foreseeable period of time.

Today, terminations for personal use are only permitted if the owners can prove "urgent personal use".
