Aspects of climate change are more pronounced in Switzerland than the global average, as the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) and ETH Zurich announced on Tuesday. This trend is already evident: while the global climate has warmed by 1.3 degrees so far, the warming in Switzerland is already 2.9 degrees compared to pre-industrial times.

With global warming of 1.5 degrees, the warming in Switzerland amounts to 2.9 degrees Celsius according to the researchers' calculations, and even 4.9 degrees in a 3-degree world. This is 10 to 15 percent more than predicted in the latest climate scenarios from 2018.

According to the report, this will lead to more extreme heat, more drought, heavier precipitation and less snow.
