Several hundred people have gathered on Lucerne's Kurplatz for a demonstration by the Mass-Voll organization. As right-wing extremists are expected, a counter-rally has been announced.

An alliance of left-wing parties and the May Day Committee called for this. The counter-rally started at 3 p.m. on Europaplatz, on the other side of the lake as a square rally. Both demonstrations are authorized.

The SP saw the danger of Lucerne becoming "a place for right-wing extremists to march", as it announced at the end of April. The Greens petitioned for the withdrawal of the permit for Mass-voll.

In February, a Mass-voll demonstration in St. Gallen broke through a police cordon and skirmishes broke out. Members of the right-wing extremist group Junge Tat were at the front of the march.

Members of far-right parties from Hungary and Bulgaria are expected to attend today's demonstration. It is directed against the Bilaterals III EU treaty package. Numerous Swiss flags could be seen at the start.
