Lufthansa pilots and flight attendants went on strike on Thursday night. A spokeswoman for the Ufo union confirmed that the warning strike for cabin crew at Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine began at 00:01.

The work stoppages are planned for the whole day until midnight, meaning that hundreds of jets operated by Germany's largest airline will have to remain on the ground. The company did not initially give an exact number of the canceled connections, but "extensive flight cancellations" were announced.

The departure schedules of major airports such as Frankfurt and Berlin only show a few Lufthansa connections that are to be maintained. Passengers should be informed primarily via digital channels and, if possible, not travel to the airport on their own.

The approximately 4800 pilots at Lufthansa and its cargo subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo are striking for higher company pensions. The flight attendants want to force collective bargaining on several issues with a warning strike. The trade union Ufo has also called on staff at the regional subsidiary Lufthansa Cityline, which is threatened with closure, to strike. The Executive Board has rejected the demands. Other Group companies are not to go on strike.
