A newspaper in Iran has been forced to cease publication due to critical reports. The country's press supervisory body justified the state-ordered suspension of the newspaper "Hammihan" with two articles, as reported by the Tasnim news agency.

One article was a column by the newspaper's editor-in-chief. In another editorial, the well-known journalist Elaheh Mohammadi wrote about the state violence during the recent wave of protests. After the women's protests three years ago, she was imprisoned for her critical reporting, sentenced and pardoned in February 2025.
The press in Iran is subject to censorship. Nevertheless, a few media outlets try to report critically of the government. This is all the more difficult in times of crisis. In the wake of the current wave of protests, the authorities have blocked the internet. Only a handful of pro-government and state media report on events in the country with a selective view.
