In the discussion about the new US plan for an end to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, leading CSU European politician Manfred Weber is calling for the EU to be expanded into a European NATO. "We can no longer rely on the USA without restrictions", said the chairman of the European political party family EPP to "Bild am Sonntag". We are experiencing "historic hours". This is not just about Ukraine, but "about the security of us all".

Weber criticized the US plan for the war in Ukraine, stating that Ukraine should give up parts of its territory and limit the size of its armed forces. The CSU politician said that the cession of territories should not be forced on Ukraine. It must also be strengthened militarily and not weakened.

Representatives of Germany, France, the UK and the EU are currently trying to negotiate what they see as unacceptable concessions to Russia out of the Americans' 28-point plan. It also provides for NATO to renounce any expansion.
