"The Chernihiv region experienced Christmas under fire. Unfortunately, two people died. Two others were injured," the authorities announced in the morning. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported numerous emergency shutdowns and power outages in the country following the Russian attacks.
According to the Ukrainian air defense, Russia attacked with 131 drones last night, 106 of which were neutralized. There were 22 drone strikes at 15 locations in the country. The Ukrainian leadership accuses Moscow of terror at Christmas. Due to the power and heating failures now in the cold season, the situation is particularly threatening for many people in the country.
Russia reports deaths after Ukrainian attacks
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported the shooting down of more than 100 Ukrainian drones. Kiev is thus defending itself against the Russian war of aggression. Three men from a humanitarian aid convoy from the Russian republic of Dagestan were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack, announced the head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, on Telegram. One injured man was taken to hospital.
According to the report, the aid workers, who were traveling in the Russian border region with Ukraine, wanted to bring humanitarian aid supplies to those in need in two trucks. Melikov did not provide any details about the exact location of the incident.
Russia, which according to Orthodox custom does not celebrate Christmas until January 7 - as do many Orthodox Christians in Ukraine - had rejected a ceasefire over the festive period. With the attacks, the Russian leadership also wants to force Kiev to agree to a peace agreement on Moscow's terms. Ukraine sees Moscow's demands as a call to surrender.
Russia has been waging a destructive war of aggression against Ukraine for almost four years now.
