In Sumy in the north-east of the country, two people were killed in a Russian attack, according to the authorities. One person also died in Kharkiv in the east - in a drone attack, the city announced.
There was also heavy damage in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia and in the port city of Odessa, where listed buildings in the historic center were hit. Several people were injured there in the evening. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi spoke of "another terrorist crime".
Russia had attacked several cities during the night - with various weapons, including drones, missiles and glide bombs. Zelenskyi also reported damage in other regions and a further six injured.
Ukraine needs more protection from Russian terror, Selensky appealed to the country's supporters in the West. "Every air defense system, every defensive missile is a lifesaver. It is very important that our partners take action, fulfil our agreements and increase the pressure on Russia," the president emphasized on his Telegram news channel.
Russia: energy infrastructure targets destroyed
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced in Moscow this morning that the attacks had been aimed at the country's energy infrastructure, which Ukraine uses to maintain the operation of its defence industry. "The targets of the strikes were achieved. All targeted objects were destroyed," the ministry said.
The information provided by the warring parties is almost impossible to verify independently. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost three years.
