The dead hostage returned to Israel on Saturday night has been identified as Elijahu Margalit, according to the Israeli government. The then 75-year-old resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel was murdered in a terrorist attack by Islamist Hamas on October 7, 2023 and his body was taken to the Gaza Strip. His daughter was kidnapped alive and later released as part of an agreement to hand over hostages.
