At least six people have been killed in a Russian drone attack on the Sumy region in eastern Ukraine. A combat drone struck a multi-storey residential building in the village of Hluchiw at night, causing several floors to collapse as a result of the blast, according to local media reports. At least twelve people were injured, the regional administration announced on the morning of the 1000th day of the war. More victims were suspected under the rubble.

Just last weekend, twelve people, including two children, were killed when a Russian missile hit a residential building in Sumy. Over 50 people were injured.

The city and region of Sumy have recently been increasingly targeted by Russian attacks using missiles, bombs, artillery and drones. The supply route for Ukrainian troops, who have occupied part of the western Russian region of Kursk, runs through the area.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his army to launch a large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
