Following the Russian air strikes in Ukraine, the death toll in the cities of Zaporizhia and Kryvyi Rih in the south-east of the country has risen further. Ten people died in Zaporizhzhya in the attack with a Russian glide bomb, eight of them in their cars, as the emergency services reported after the work was completed in the morning.

President Volodymyr Selenskyj had spoken of nine deaths the previous evening. According to the authorities, a total of 24 people were injured. Among them were three children aged between four months and eleven years.

In the town of Krywyj Rih, rescue workers pulled a third body from the rubble of a building that had been hit, according to the authorities. The rocket attack on Friday also injured 17 people, including a child. Zelensky accused Russia of terrorism and called on the West to support Ukraine militarily and make it strong enough to resist Russian attacks.

Zelensky expected in Paris for talks

The Ukrainian president is expected in Paris this Saturday for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron will also receive US President-elect Donald Trump, who is traveling abroad for the first time since his election victory in November. The occasion is the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, which was damaged in a fire.

It was initially unclear whether Selenskyj would also hold talks with Trump. He fears that Trump could significantly reduce or even end US aid to Ukraine after his inauguration in January. The country has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost three years and has repeatedly warned of a Moscow victory if military aid is stopped.
