Despite ongoing peace talks in Ukraine, the Russian military has once again carried out night-time airstrikes on the capital Kiev. At least seven people were killed, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram. At least another 20 people were injured. According to the Ukrainian air force, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles and drones were used in the attack.

According to the city administration, several districts were hit or damaged by falling debris. In the central district of Pechersk, a 22-storey residential building had to be completely evacuated due to a fire following a suspected drone strike. In the eastern part of the city of three million people, which is divided by the Dnipro River, there were emergency power cuts, according to the electricity supplier DTEK. The water supply is also problematic. In the western part, electricity is available on schedule by the hour.
"Massive combined attack"
According to reports, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy spoke of a "massive combined attack" on the energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian air force had issued a nationwide warning of missile attacks after Russian fighter jets took off from bases inside Russia.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion with Western help since February 2022. Especially at night, the attackers repeatedly attack Ukrainian cities with missiles, glide bombs and drones.
Intensive talks are currently underway between Ukraine, European allies and the USA on a basis for a possible peace solution. It is still unclear what a sustainable compromise between Ukraine and the aggressor Russia could look like.
