Three civilians were killed as a result of artillery fire shortly after midday local time, the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office announced on Telegram. According to the authorities, one civilian had already fallen victim to Russian rocket fire in the morning.
Several residential buildings and stores were damaged. The industrial city had over 60,000 inhabitants before the war. The front line runs only about nine kilometers east of Kostyantynivka.
In addition, two men were killed by artillery fire in the town of Nikopol in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region. One woman was injured, regional governor Serhij Lysak announced on Telegram. Numerous buildings were damaged in the large city, which once had a population of over 100,000. Nikopol is located directly on the Dnipro River, which separates Russian and Ukrainian troops in this part of the country.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost three years.
