Ahead of top-level talks in Washington on ending the war in Ukraine, at least four people have been killed in a Russian air strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. At least 17 people were also injured, as Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced on Telegram. According to the information, four Russian combat drones had hit a multi-storey residential building.
Major fire near Odessa
An unspecified fuel infrastructure facility near the port city of Odessa on the Black Sea was hit in the air strike. Governor Oleh Kiper announced that the fire department had been able to extinguish the major fire. According to regional authorities, the Sumy region in the north-east of Ukraine was attacked with so-called glide bombs. A missile alert was still in place in the eastern part of Ukraine in the morning.
Ukraine has been at war with Russia for almost three and a half years. President Donald Trump will receive the Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Selenskyj and top European politicians, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), in Washington today at midday local time. The meeting will focus on plans for a possible end to the war, which Trump brought back from his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday in Alaska.
