The Russians and Ukrainians have announced a new round of negotiations in Abu Dhabi this Sunday on an end to the war. According to the Russians, no US mediators will be present this time. A peace agreement is not yet in sight.

The Kremlin had agreed to a request from US President Donald Trump to temporarily refrain from new attacks against energy facilities - in view of the icy cold and severe damage to infrastructure. According to Russia, the agreement was initially only to apply until this Sunday in order to create a good basis for the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

Kiev restores heating supply

There were initially no new reports of Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. Following a blackout on Saturday due to a power line failure, work to restore the supply continued. According to the authorities, emergency shutdowns continued throughout the country.

Kiev's mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that more and more houses were being reconnected to the heating supply. According to the report, around 1,000 houses in the capital were still without heating in the morning - after 3,500 houses the previous evening.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost four years with Western help.
