Despite ceasefire agreement: renewed fighting in Lebanon

Despite the ceasefire agreed between Israel and Lebanon, the conflict between the Hezbollah militia and Israel continues. An Israeli soldier was killed in a renewed attack by the pro-Iranian militia on the troops stationed in the south of Lebanon, as the army announced in the evening. Shortly beforehand, Hezbollah had rejected the conditions for a ceasefire agreed between Lebanon and Israel in Washington on Thursday night.

The Lebanese government is not a party to the war and has only limited influence over Hezbollah. Following the deadly Hezbollah attack, the Israeli army reportedly bombed the militia's infrastructure. During the night, Hezbollah announced another rocket attack on Israeli troops in the south of Lebanon. This could not be independently verified. There was initially no announcement from Israel's army.

Hezbollah does not participate in ceasefire

Hezbollah in Lebanon rejects the recently agreed conditions for a ceasefire with Israel. "The announced agreement is a roadmap for the destruction of part of the Lebanese people and the subjugation of the rest," said Hezbollah leader Naim Kassim in a statement read out on television.

Kassim particularly rejected demands for the disarmament of the Iranian-backed organization. An interpretation of the ceasefire according to which Hezbollah would have to cease its attacks while the Israeli attacks continued would be tantamount to "surrender".

Kassim emphasized that Hezbollah had not promised anyone to refrain from "resistance or retaliation". As long as the attacks continued, the organization would continue its military actions. "We reject any link between the existence of the resistance and the end of the aggression or the withdrawal of Israel," he said.

At the same time, Kassim declared that Hezbollah was in favor of a comprehensive ceasefire, which must include the end of all Israeli attacks, Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory, the return of displaced persons and reconstruction.

Criticism of ceasefire also from Israel

Israel's Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has also already criticized the agreement between Israel and Lebanon as a "serious mistake". The agreement was the result of wrong advice to the political leadership and, in his opinion, would strengthen Hezbollah.

Defense Minister Israel Katz rejected the criticism and, according to media reports, spoke of "great achievements" in Lebanon on a military and political level. The agreement reflects the reality created by Israel and could make a peace treaty with Lebanon possible in the future.

According to Katz, the agreement also provides for the continued presence of the Israeli army in a so-called "security zone" in the border area as well as operational freedom of action.

Congress puts the brakes on Trump - who now rages against "evil Republicans and all stupid Democrats"

The House of Representatives wants to restrict Donald Trump on the war in Iran - see entry 1.53 pm. Now the 79-year-old has reacted to the vote.

"Yesterday, in a meaningless vote with 4 evil Republicans and all the Dummocrats, the House of Representatives voted to limit my war powers in the middle of my final negotiations to end the war with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump writes on Truth Social.

The 79-year-old goes on to ask: "Who would do something so unpatriotic? You know where the negotiations stand. The Democrats are fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome. They would rather let our country fail than give me another of many victories."

Israel warns Lebanese against returning to the south

Despite a new attempt at a ceasefire in Lebanon, the Israeli military has warned the inhabitants of southern Lebanon against returning to their home villages. "The fighting in southern Lebanon is continuing," a spokesman said in Arabic on X. Targets of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah are being attacked, it said.

Residents should not travel south of the Sahrani River - about 40 kilometers north of the Israeli border. Anyone traveling south would be putting their lives at risk.

During the night, Israel and Lebanon once again agreed on a way to implement the ceasefire. Hezbollah has not yet commented on this.

    Lebanon reports new drone attacks

Despite a new attempt to implement the barely effective ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli attacks are continuing in Lebanon.

The state news agency NNA reported at least two drone attacks on various vehicles in the south of the country this morning. The Israeli military did not comment at first.

During the night, Israel and Lebanon again agreed on a way to implement the ceasefire. This was dependent on a complete cessation of attacks by the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia against Israel, according to a joint statement following talks between Israeli and Lebanese government representatives in Washington.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Lebanon as a result of the war, which has been going on since the beginning of March. The Lebanese Civil Defense called on people to be patient in the morning.

They should not rush to return to their homes. They should only return to the villages in the south of the country once official announcements have been made. In addition, there is still a danger from war remnants and unexploded ammunition.

Lebanon and Israel want to implement fragile ceasefire

According to the US State Department, Israel and Lebanon have agreed on a way to implement the ceasefire, which has so far been virtually ineffective. The ceasefire is dependent on a complete cessation of attacks by the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia against Israel, according to a joint statement following talks between Israeli and Lebanese government representatives in Washington.

Israel and the Shia militia are facing off in the current conflict. The Lebanese government itself is not a party to the war - and has only limited influence over Hezbollah. The militia, which is allied with Tehran, is not involved in the talks. It regards negotiations with Israel as a capitulation.

The joint declaration reached in Washington provides for the establishment of so-called pilot zones in Lebanon, in which only the regular Lebanese armed forces are to exercise control. Hezbollah is to withdraw from areas south of the Litani River - i.e. from the area close to the border with Israel. How these security zones are to be established is still unclear. "These steps will enable progress towards a comprehensive peace and security agreement," it says.

No details were initially given as to whether the new commitment to the ceasefire was a temporary extension. Previously, the ceasefire had been extended for a limited period of time. Israel and Lebanon agreed to continue their talks during the week of June 22 in order to reach a comprehensive agreement, the statement added.

House of Representatives votes to limit Trump's power in Iran war

The US House of Representatives has surprisingly voted in favor of withdrawing the military from combat operations with Iran, thereby increasing the political pressure on President Donald Trump. According to the resolution, a formal declaration of war by Congress is required for a combat mission. Operations that are necessary for the defense of the USA or an ally against imminent attacks are excluded. 215 MPs voted in favor of the resolution, 208 voted against. Four members of Trump's Republican caucus voted with the Democrats, helping their bill to pass.

The resolution has no immediate consequences for the US course towards Iran, but shows the increasing political pressure on Trump - especially as the midterm elections for Congress are five months away. More and more Republicans are now openly opposing Trump's war strategy.

A ceasefire is currently in place in the Iran war and negotiations are underway on a possible framework agreement to end the war. Nevertheless, there have been repeated attacks on each other in recent days.

The resolution of the House of Representatives would now have to be passed by the Senate, the other chamber of Congress. Even if this were to happen, the President could veto a resolution from both chambers. A two-thirds majority would be required to override the veto - which seems very unlikely. Around two weeks ago, the US Senate voted for the first time in favor of greater control of the war in Iran. The majority was made possible by four Republicans who broke with their party's line.

Trump: Could imagine meeting with Khamenei

In the midst of the war with Iran, US President Donald Trump has declared his willingness to meet with the head of state, Moshtaba Khamenei. When asked in an interview with the New York Post, he said: "Yes, I would like to meet him - I would meet anybody."

Trump said there would probably be a meeting at some point, "depending on how everything develops". Whether the meeting will take place is questionable. Washington and Tehran have been hostile towards each other since the Iranian revolution in 1979.

Khamenei continues to play a decisive role in the Iranian leadership, said Trump. So far, the US side seems to be getting along "quite well" with him, Trump said. However, the US president fueled speculation that Khamenei had been seriously wounded in the war. "If you believe the stories, he's missing, well, a lot of parts," Trump said.

There has been speculation about the 56-year-old's state of health ever since Modshtaba Khamenei succeeded his slain father. Iranian state media described him in a portrait as a "war invalid". He has not appeared in public since his appointment.

More than 60 injured after attack at Kuwait airport

At least 63 people were injured in the latest Iranian attack at Kuwait airport. This was announced by a spokesman for the Ministry of Health. Among the injured were travelers, airport employees and other civilians.

Some of them had lost limbs as a result of the explosions, others had suffered brain haemorrhages or broken bones. Seven of the injured have so far undergone emergency surgery. Two dozen ambulances were deployed at the airport to treat the victims and take them to hospitals, the spokesman said.

At least one person was killed in the attack. The airport has come under fire several times during the Iran war and has now been hit again. Pictures taken after the attack today showed a destroyed airport hall as well as thick smoke and fire.

Kuwait and Iran are only a few hundred kilometers apart as the crow flies. The small Gulf state is therefore an easy target for Tehran and has reported hundreds of Iranian attacks with drones and missiles since the start of the war at the end of February. These have hit civilian areas, infrastructure and also US military facilities and the US embassy.

New escalation: USA and Iran attack each other in the Gulf region

The USA and Iran have engaged in one of the heaviest firefights since the beginning of the ceasefire. During the night, Iran's Revolutionary Guards fired ballistic missiles and drones at the neighboring Gulf states of Kuwait and Bahrain, while the US military attacked an Iranian military facility on the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tehran, the Iranian attacks targeted US military bases in the Persian Gulf states.

These were not the first reciprocal attacks since the ceasefire came into force on April 8, but with each new attack, fears of a renewed escalation of the war increase. The latest exchange of blows took place against the backdrop of faltering negotiations on a framework agreement to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.

According to the US military, it successfully repelled Iran's attacks. Several ballistic missiles and drones were intercepted, the regional command responsible for the Middle East (Centcom) announced on X. In response, "self-defense strikes" were also carried out on Qeshm. Shortly afterwards, the US military said it had repelled another "wave of Iranian drones" targeting US military facilities in Kuwait. The US military's account of the night's events could initially be independently verified.

US military: Another Iranian attack repelled

The US military said it had repelled another Iranian attack on American forces in the Gulf state of Kuwait last night. A "wave of Iranian drones" missed their target, the regional command responsible for the Middle East (Centcom) announced on Platform X. The US air defense had successfully shot down several drones. No one was injured and no damage was reported. The information could not initially be independently verified.

Previously, the US military had already successfully repelled a major Iranian attack on targets in Kuwait and the island state of Bahrain, according to its own statements. Both states on the Persian Gulf are home to important US military bases.

US military: Iranian attacks in the Gulf region repelled

According to the US military, it has successfully repelled a major Iranian attack on targets in the Gulf region during the night. Several ballistic missiles and drones were intercepted, the regional command responsible for the Middle East (Centcom) announced on Platform X. In response to Iran's attacks, "self-defense strikes" were also carried out on an Iranian military facility on the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz. The information provided by the US military could not initially be independently verified.

Immediately before this, Kuwait and the island state of Bahrain had reported attacks using missiles and drones. Both states on the Persian Gulf are home to important US military bases. According to the US, the latest attacks missed their targets, either because missiles did not work or because they were intercepted by air defenses.

The US military also announced that three drones fired by Iran at civilian ships had been shot down. The ships were lawfully in the waters of the region. The US military remains ready to repel Iranian aggression even during the current ceasefire, Centcom explained.

The reason for the latest exchange of blows despite the ceasefire and ongoing negotiations for an end to the war appeared to be a US military operation on Tuesday. According to the US military, it had attacked an unladen oil tanker off the island of Kharg, which is important for Iran's oil exports, which was allegedly attempting to call at an Iranian port. The ship was reportedly put out of action with a missile.

The island of Kharg is the central transshipment point for Iranian oil exports and handles around 90 percent of the country's crude oil exports.

An Iranian military spokesman confirmed on X retaliatory strikes by the Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic Republic's elite military force. He said they had warned "that any aggression would result in a different and more decisive response, and we have implemented it. These reactions should be a lesson," it said. Any threat to the security of the Strait of Hormuz would "cost the US military dearly", the military spokesman warned.

Kuwait reports hostile attacks with missiles and drones

The Gulf state of Kuwait is again being attacked by missiles and drones. The country's armed forces announced on Platform X during the night that air defenses were in operation. Explosion noises were associated with projectiles being intercepted. There was initially no information on the origin of the drones and missiles or the targets of the attacks. There was also a missile alert in Bahrain during the night, as the Ministry of the Interior announced. The population should remain calm and stay in safe places.

However, since the beginning of the US-Israeli attacks on Iran at the end of February, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic have repeatedly fired such missiles at Kuwait and other states in the Persian Gulf. The US military maintains numerous bases there, which are only a few hundred kilometers away from Iran as the crow flies. Despite the ceasefire that has actually been in place since the beginning of April, there have recently been isolated Iranian attacks of this kind again. Tehran spoke of retaliation for attacks by the US military.

Shortly beforehand, the US military had announced that it had attacked an unladen oil tanker in the Persian Gulf with a missile, putting it out of action. The ship had attempted to call at an Iranian port on Tuesday and was therefore hit off the island of Kharg, which is important for Tehran's oil exports, the responsible regional command, Centcom, announced on X. On April 13, the USA began blocking all shipping traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports.

USA fires missile at tanker off Iranian island of Kharg

The US military says it has attacked an unladen oil tanker in the Persian Gulf with a missile, putting it out of action. The ship had attempted to call at an Iranian port on Tuesday and was therefore hit off the island of Kharg, which is important for Tehran's oil exports, the regional command responsible for the Middle East (Centcom) announced on Platform X. On April 13, the USA began blocking all shipping traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports.

The crew of the Botswana-flagged ship had ignored repeated warnings and failed to comply with the instructions of the US forces several times over a period of 24 hours, the statement continued. A US aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the ship's engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran.

A video was also published showing the ship under attack. It shows a projectile hitting the tanker, followed by rising smoke. According to Centcom, US forces have so far disabled six merchant ships and diverted 122 as part of their blockade.

Negotiations between Tehran and Washington to end the war with Iran are currently at a standstill. A ceasefire has been in place in the conflict since the beginning of April. While Iranian news agencies are reporting that no talks have been taking place between Tehran and Washington for several days, US President Donald Trump has stated that the negotiations are continuing. All other reports are false and misleading.

Trump rejects reports that talks with Iran have broken off

US President Donald Trump has denied reports in the Iranian media that indirect talks with the United States have been broken off. On Tuesday, Trump described corresponding reports by Iranian news agencies on social media as "false and misleading".

"Talks between us have continued uninterrupted, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago and today," the US president said. "Where they lead, you never know, but as I said to Iran, "It's time for you to make a deal one way or another. You've been doing this for 47 years, and it can't go on any longer!"

Tehran also breaks off talks with mediators

According to Iranian news agencies, Iran has broken off talks with mediators about an end to the war.

The semi-state agencies Fars and Tasnim, which are close to the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards, reported today that the break-off came after Israel threatened to bomb the Lebanese capital Beirut.

According to sources close to the mediators, Iran did not communicate at all today. Tehran had previously stated that a ceasefire had to be enforced in Lebanon so that negotiations could continue.

Iran insists that the fighting in Lebanon is part of the broader ceasefire negotiations with the United States. Israel and the US, on the other hand, argue that the fighting in Lebanon has nothing to do with the negotiations with Iran.

Despite Trump's "intervention": eight dead in Lebanon

According to Lebanese reports, eight people have been killed in Israeli drone attacks in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese state news agency NNA, a father and his son and daughter were killed in a drone attack.

The Lebanese army also announced that two of its soldiers were slightly injured in another drone attack. The NNA reported further fatal attacks in the towns of Jibshit and Tul as well as near Haruf. A total of five people were killed. However, the Israeli military stated that it was not aware of any Israeli attacks there.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia fired anti-tank missiles at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military announced that warning sirens had been triggered in several areas in northern Israel. No casualties were reported.

The attacks took place one day after US President Donald Trump declared that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to de-escalate.

Following a telephone call with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump had stated that Israel would not send troops to Beirut. However, the fighting continued at a similar level. Despite a ceasefire agreed in April, both sides continue to attack each other.

Trump wants to defuse Lebanon conflict - Iran threatens

In view of the escalating conflict between Israel and the Tehran-allied Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, Iran is threatening to break off negotiations with the USA in the Iran war. If "the Israeli aggression against Lebanon" continues, "we will not only stop the negotiation path, but also enter into a direct confrontation with the enemy", wrote Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on X after a conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri. US President Donald Trump emphasized on Truth Social that talks with Tehran would continue at a "rapid pace".

Israel and the Hezbollah militia would stop their mutual attacks for the time being, Trump had previously announced on his platform. In addition, Israel would not deploy troops to the Lebanese capital Beirut, contrary to what had been threatened. The decision was preceded by a "very productive" phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and "very good" talks with senior Hezbollah representatives, Trump added.

On Monday, Israel bombed the Lebanese port city of Tyre. A hospital was also hit.

Netanyahu later issued a statement in which there was no mention of a new ceasefire. However, he did appear to back down from his announcement that Hezbollah would be attacked in the southern suburbs of Beirut. However, if Hezbollah does not cease its attacks on Israeli cities, Israel will again attack "terror targets" in Beirut, Netanyahu wrote on X. He communicated this to Trump. "Israel is sticking to this stance," he wrote. At the same time, Israel's army will continue its deployment in southern Lebanon as planned.

The fighting between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah is a sticking point in the negotiations on a permanent agreement to end the US war against Iran. In addition to releasing Iranian assets abroad and retaining de facto control of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is also demanding a permanent ceasefire in Lebanon as part of any final agreement.

    Report: Trump calls Netanyahu "crazy"

Due to Israel's escalation in Lebanon, US President Donald Trump is said to have harshly attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an expletive-laden phone call on Monday, the US news portal "Axios " reported, citing two US officials and a third source familiar with the conversation. Trump described his ally as "crazy" ("You are fucking crazy") and accused him of ingratitude. Without him, Netanyahu would be in prison, Trump is said to have railed. The Israeli head of government has been on trial for corruption for six years.

The confrontation between Israel and the Hezbollah militia has recently come to a head. Israel and the Lebanese government had concluded a ceasefire in mid-April. However, the Shiite militia itself rejects negotiations with Israel. The war has continued ever since, with both sides continuing to attack each other on a daily basis. People are dying again and again, especially in Lebanon.

Israeli soldiers have recently advanced further and further inland in Lebanon, but are still a long way from Beirut. Contrary to Trump's assertion, the Israeli troops were not on their way to the capital, the Times of Israel quoted military sources last night.

Representatives of Israel and Lebanon have been negotiating conditions for defusing the conflict in Washington for weeks. So far, however, there has been no breakthrough. According to the Lebanese presidential office, these negotiations will now continue in order to discuss and build on the latest progress.

Trump names "next week" for possible agreement

US President Donald Trump has named "next week" as the timeframe for a possible agreement with Iran on a framework deal that includes the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by the US broadcaster ABC News, citing a telephone interview with Trump. He added that he still had to clarify points and had not yet agreed to the agreement. There has also been no public commitment to an agreement from Iran so far.

There has been no public commitment to an agreement from Tehran so far - on the contrary: the Iranian news agency Tasnim had previously written that the Iranian negotiating team had stopped the indirect exchange with the USA. They cite the ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon as the reason for breaking off the peace negotiations.

But Trump contradicts the report. "Talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran are continuing at a brisk pace," he wrote on his online platform Truth Social. In the past, Trump has repeatedly announced optimistic timetables for an end to the war, which were then quickly overtaken by reality.

According to Tasnim, talks to end the Iran war, which has been going on for three months, will only resume once Iran's demands have been met. These include an immediate end to Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied territories in Lebanon.
