The FBI has provisionally arrested a judge in the US state of Wisconsin - she is accused of helping an undocumented migrant. There is evidence that the judge wanted to prevent the arrest of a migrant, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on the X platform. After an initial hearing in court, the judge was initially released, as reported by the Washington Post.

The arrest of a judge is a further escalation in the dispute between President Donald Trump's administration and the judiciary over deportations. "No one is above the law in this country," US Justice Secretary Pam Bondi defended the action in an interview with Fox News. "She has put the lives of our law enforcement officers at risk, (...) the lives of our citizens." This behavior will not be tolerated - no matter who it is, Bondi continued.

Arrest in court

Patel's post went on to say of the allegations against the judge: "Fortunately, our agents pursued the offender on foot and he has since been in custody, but the obstruction by the judge has resulted in an increased danger to the public." The regional newspaper "The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel" reported, citing authorities, that Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested in court at around 8.00 a.m. (local time) on Friday. She is accused of obstructing the investigation and concealing a person.

The newspaper wrote that the authorities had not yet announced who the person was. However, it can be assumed that it is an immigrant from Mexico who had a court appearance last week on criminal charges.
