In view of the growing threat of attacks, Germany wants to expand its cooperation with Israel in the area of security. The aim is to provide more protection for Germany, said Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) during a visit to Israel. He signed a cyber and security pact together with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Specifically, the pact includes close networking between the security authorities of both countries as well as even closer cooperation in the areas of cybercrime, artificial intelligence (AI) and drone defense, as Dobrindt told media representatives in Jerusalem. Germany wants to use Israel's experience and technologies in this area. There are more and more potential groups that could attack infrastructure facilities, for example.

Netanyahu said that cyber attacks were one of the greatest threats to internal security. In addition to joint cyber defense, the "comprehensive security partnership" between Germany and Israel is also about combating terrorism. "Iran and its allies - Hezbollah, Hamas and Houthis - not only threaten Israel, but also regional stability and international security," continued the Israeli head of government.

Germany also wants to help ensure Israel's security

Dobrindt explained that Germany would also "take the lead" for the first time in the US-led Office of the Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority (OSC) in Jerusalem. This function will be assumed by the current President of the Special Police Forces in Germany, Olaf Lindner.

Germany has been supporting the police in the Palestinian territories for many years in order to help stabilize the situation there. Dobrindt said that Germany wanted to help guarantee Israel's security.

The signed declaration underlines "Germany's great commitment to the security of the State of Israel", emphasized Netanyahu.

The German Interior Minister had previously also met Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
