More than 30 people have reportedly been injured - including several children - in a Russian drone attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The attack hit the city during the night, damaging several buildings and causing fires, according to mayor Ihor Terekhov and the regional military administration, according to Ukrainian media. A supermarket was destroyed and a nine-storey residential building was evacuated after being hit. Footage from Kharkiv showed numerous burnt-out vehicle wrecks.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three and a half years. Russia's airstrikes spread fear and terror in the neighboring country, especially at night. Kharkiv is only around 35 kilometers from the Russian border and is particularly often under fire. Before the war began in February 2022, Ukraine's second-largest city had a population of 1.4 million. After the fighting began, many of them fled. According to the authorities, around 1.3 million people now live in Kharkiv again.
