Several drones have been spotted at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands. Civil and military air traffic has been suspended, announced Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans on Platform X. Further investigations are still ongoing. "We will take measures if necessary", the minister continued. A spokeswoman for Eindhoven Airport confirmed the incident to Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Air traffic was temporarily suspended, she said. Flights were also diverted via Germany, according to the airport's website.

Soldiers from the Dutch Volkel airbase had already used weapons against drones flying overhead on Friday evening, according to the Ministry of Defense in The Hague. After the incident at the airfield not far from the city of Nijmegen near the German border, the missiles disappeared and have not been seen again, it added. The ministry did not want to say how the drones were discovered and what weapons were actually used against them "for security reasons".
Shot at drones
A spokesperson for the Dutch gendarmerie, which is responsible for border protection, told the ANP news agency that the drones had been "shot at". The incident is now being investigated with the police.
There have been repeated drone incidents in European airspace for months. Germany has also been affected, including Munich Airport. In order to prevent espionage, sabotage and possible attacks on people, the German Armed Forces are to assist with drone defense in Germany in the future - using armed force if necessary. This is provided for in a draft by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which was recently approved by the cabinet.
