Following a ceasefire over Orthodox Easter, the Ukrainian army has fired on a chemical plant in northern Russia using long-range drones. The target was an ammonia plant in Cherepovets about 400 kilometers north of Moscow, wrote the commander of the Ukrainian drone forces, Robert Browdi, on Telegram. The factory produces several hundred thousand tons of ammonia, saltpetre and nitric acid annually, which are used to produce explosives.

On the Russian side, Mayor Andrej Nakroschajew confirmed that there had been an attack on an industrial plant. According to the state news agency Tass, there was no danger to the town itself. Cherepovets is located around 900 kilometers from Ukraine.

Russian attacks began just after midnight

Over the Orthodox Easter holiday from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening, both Russia and Ukraine largely adhered to a ceasefire. There were no major airstrikes; violations were reported by both sides, particularly along the ground front. According to Kiev, the Russian army resumed attacks with long-range drones deep into Ukraine when the ceasefire expired at midnight. According to the Ukrainian air force, the attacks continued throughout the day.

Selenskyj: Ukrainian weapons are getting better and better

On Monday, Ukraine celebrated Arms Industry Day. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that his country had created its own long-range weapons for hitting the Russian rear. Ukraine had also expanded its drone defense, the use of remote-controlled combat robots and naval drones. Kiev also offers these weapons and its experience in using them to its partners.

"For the first time in the history of this war, an enemy position was conquered exclusively with unmanned systems - robots and drones," Selensky cited as an example. "The occupiers surrendered, and this operation was carried out without the involvement of infantry and without casualties on our side." The president did not provide further details.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion for more than four years.
