According to a report in the NZZ newspaper, the board informed its members on Saturday evening of the resignation. The co-president of Operation Libero, Stefan Manser-Egli, confirmed the resignations to the news agency Keystone-SDA on Monday.
In reference to the general assembly of the Eastern Switzerland section in January 2025, the website already states that new members are being sought.
Ameti's shots at a picture of Mary and Jesus crossed a line, section president Bruno Zanvit is quoted as saying in the article. He would also have liked Operation Libero to listen more to the suggestions and feedback from Eastern Switzerland.
The Eastern Switzerland region is one of six regional sections of Operation Libero. According to Manser-Egli, the other sections have spoken out in favor of the national board's position, i.e. Sameti remaining as co-president.
Zurich public prosecutor's office investigating
Ameti's action in September has also become a case for the courts. The Zurich public prosecutor's office is investigating around a dozen charges of disturbing religious freedom and freedom of worship. The GLP is examining exclusion proceedings against its Zurich city parliamentarian.
Ameti has resigned from the leadership of the GLP canton of Zurich. Her employer, the PR agency Farner, dismissed her after the incident, which Ameti herself had posted on Instagram.
