Germany ECJ: Leaving the church alone is not enough for dismissal

Church institutions may not automatically dismiss their employees for leaving the church, according to a ruling by the European Court of Justice. The judges in Luxembourg ruled at the request of the Federal Labor Court that if not all employees with the same job are required to be church members, this could stand in the way of dismissal.
