In the wake of the war, there is great uncertainty about the future at Iranian universities. Iran's science minister said on Friday that no decision had yet been made regarding lectures in attendance. This also applies to examinations. "We have not yet made a decision on this (...) and are waiting to see how the situation will develop," said Hussein Simaei on the sidelines of a memorial service, according to the Tasnim news agency.
The government is still in the process of rebuilding the universities that were bombed during the war. However, this would require considerable financial resources. For weeks now, lecturers at Iranian universities have only been teaching online. However, according to informed sources, there are also massive problems with this. Added to this is the network lockdown, which has cut Iran's population off from the global internet.
Meanwhile, student associations have complained of continued harsh repression following the mass protests in January, which have since died down. The university newspaper "Amir-Kabir" reported on Thursday, for example, that a student who had taken part in the demonstrations was threatened with execution. Students at several universities had also been de-registered for allegedly taking part in the protests.
