This was reported by the German Press Agency from Egyptian security circles. The aim is to revive the ceasefire in Gaza, which has effectively ended. The proposal contains details on the release of further hostages held by Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the coastal area.
A Hamas representative confirmed to the German Press Agency that the Islamist organization had received the proposal. "Our movement responded with great interest in order to save the lives of civilians," said the Hamas member. There was initially no confirmation of the new proposal from the Israeli side. The Qatari news site "Al-Arabi al-Jadid" had previously reported on it.
According to Egyptian security circles, the plan envisages Hamas releasing five hostages per week in the event of an agreement on a renewed ceasefire. One week after the ceasefire comes into effect, Israel would then begin the second phase of the ceasefire, which came into force in January. Among other things, this provided for negotiations on an end to the war and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
According to "Al-Arabi al-Jadid", the agreement also stipulates that Hamas must provide precise information on the hostages still alive and the bodies of the dead hostages and back up this information with photos.
The Israeli air force resumed its bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night, after which Israel's military also began ground operations again. Mediators had previously failed to reach an extension of the ceasefire with Hamas, which had been in place since mid-January. Israel's goals are to free the hostages still being held in Gaza and to destroy Hamas.
