Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdellaty has spoken out in favor of rapid reconstruction in the Gaza Strip during talks in Washington - and at the same time vehemently rejected the resettlement of Palestinians. During the meeting, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdellaty emphasized the need to speed up the start of the reconstruction process, the removal of rubble and rebuilding with the Palestinians in Gaza.

In Washington, the Egyptian Foreign Minister met with his US counterpart Marco Rubio. Shortly beforehand, US President Donald Trump had reaffirmed his plan to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. According to Trump, he expects to be able to strike a deal with Israel's neighbors Egypt and Jordan on the resettlement.
