The plane crashed a few minutes after take-off from the airport in Puerto Leguízamo in the department of Putumayo near the border with Peru for unknown reasons, according to Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez.
More than 120 people on board
There were 114 passengers and 11 crew members on board, said the commander of the Colombian air force, General Carlos Fernando Silva. The fate of more than 30 passengers remains unclear for the time being. According to the governor, most of the occupants were military personnel and some police officers were also on board.
Videos circulated on social networks showed a large cloud of gray smoke and debris at the scene of the accident. Residents and security forces immediately set off to treat the injured, the radio station Bluradio reported.
