Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter, a centrist member of the National Council from the canton of Basel-Landschaft, does not want to become president of the Center Party. She has ruled out a candidacy, the 61-year-old told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday.

Mitte Schweiz needs a personality in the presidency who can focus fully on political business, party strategy and cantonal and national presence.

"However, I would like to continue to assume my responsibilities in foreign policy and the economy with full strength and conviction - and therefore rule out a candidacy," Schneider-Schneiter continued.
