Emine Erdogan, the wife of the Turkish President, has appealed to Melania Trump in a letter to stand up for the children in the Gaza Strip. She trusts that Trump will extend her sympathy for the children killed in the Ukraine war to the thousands of children killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the letter, which was published by the state news agency Anadolu.
Erdogan is referring to a letter sent by the US First Lady to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the US broadcaster Fox New, she had called for the protection of children in the war in Ukraine, among other things. The Turkish president's wife now called on Melania Trump to write a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan's letter is dated Friday.
Relations between Turkey and Israel are tense. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeatedly attacks Netanyahu verbally. Erdogan had condemned the attack by the Islamist Hamas on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, but subsequently described Hamas as a "liberation organization".
